Power of the Purse

The Power of the Purse (POP) Fund is a women's giving circle dedicated to strengthening the community by providing grant funds to non-profit organizations serving the interests of women & girls. Members of POP seek to educate and inspire other, and increase the number of women committed to philanthropy.

The spring Power of the Purse event is the first step to awarding the $10,000 grant for 2018. A summary of all grant applications will be provided at this event. Members will have the opportunity to vote for their top three proposals. (In order to vote, you must have paid your 2018 Power of the Purse Membership fee.)

We will also be teaming up with C3: Caring Community Collaborative to sponsor an Empty Bowls project at the April meeting. Bring your creativity because we will be decorating bowls which will be used at a future empty bowls event.

Cost:    $20 for dinner/drinks (includes the empty bowls)
              Purse raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 tickets for $20
              2018 Power of the Purse membership ($100)
              2018 Power of the Purse junior membership ($50)

Members may register/pay for a guest for this event. Non-members/guests may attend one Power of the Purse event without joining.

2018 Power of the Purse grant application 

Power of the Purse accepts grant requests for new or existing projects that focus of meeting the basic needs of food, shelter, or health care for women or children.

The POP Membership will review all proposals at their May meeting. The top three organizations will be invited to attend the POP Summer Meeting to provide a presentation to the membership. After the presentations, POP Members will vote on the recipient. The selected organization will be announced at the Annual Grant Gala in December. 

To date, more than $80,000 has been awarded from the Power of the Purse Fund. Past grantees include: Girls on the Run, One Way Farm, Healthy Visions and Companions on a Journey.

Membership Rights and Responsibilities

Annual dues are $100 and may be paid in one or two installments. Junior membership (ages 12 - 21) is $50/year. 

All members will be invited to the Annual Gala in December and any Power of the Purse fundraising and/or networking events. Members may serve on any of the committees or subcommittees: Education, Grants, Recruiting/Membership, and Marketing/Fundraising. They are expected to fulfill any pledges made to the fund and to further the mission of the Power of the Purse by encouraging others to participate.
